During my college days, I used to travel in a university special bus- one that is only for the students. I used to board the bus from the starting point and had my favourite seat behind the driver. I chose that seat so that I would not have to talk to anyone as I had real low self esteem then and my English language skills were horrible. There was a guy, named Madhur who used to sit sometimes with me and we got to the point where we would exchange greetings. One day he asked me, “You don’t like speaking much.. Isn’t it?” I was quiet for a minute and then I told him that I hesitate to speak due to my poor English. He looked right in my eyes and asked me, “How long will you keep quiet?” This single sentence changed my life. I ate, drank and slept the English language for three months and worked really hard to gain fluency.
I am not perfect as a communicator now but I think as a communication and behavioural trainer I do a decent job. Most importantly, when I get participants who think it is difficult for them to learn anything; I share my story with them.
Don’t you think all of us need people in our lives who can confront us and make us see the truth? If the intent of the confrontation is right and it is done properly, it can definitely motivate people to leave their comfort zone.
At Oasis of Learning, I along with a team of passionate facili-trainers support people from all walks of life to get out of their comfort zones and stretch themselves. Would you like to explore this opportunity with us? We are waiting to hear from you.
